At Christ Church Church of England Primary School, our curriculum is shaped by our commitment to ensuring that every child flourishes academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Threaded throughout all learning are our school values of Excellence, Challenge, Respect and Self‑Belief, alongside our Christian values of Compassion, Respect, Care, Love and Forgiveness. These values underpin everything we do and reflect our mission to provide a caring, ambitious environment where all children grow into responsible, resilient and independent learners.

Our curriculum is designed to reflect the unique identity of our school and community. We set high standards and expectations across all subjects, enabling pupils to develop deep knowledge, secure skills and a love of learning. Through carefully sequenced teaching, children are encouraged to articulate their thinking, make connections and apply their understanding with confidence and accuracy.

Central to our approach is the belief that children learn best when they are inspired, engaged and empowered. Our curriculum promotes:

  • Independent and resilient learners, supported through explicit teaching of metacognitive strategies and self‑regulated learning.

  • Ambition and challenge, ensuring all pupils stretch their potential and understand that effort and perseverance lead to success.

  • Positive attitudes to learning, nurtured through a Growth Mindset culture where mistakes are seen as opportunities to grow.

  • Strong foundations in essential knowledge and skills, enabling children to build understanding securely over time.

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development — along with wellbeing and mental health — are prioritised so that pupils develop empathy, respect for others and appreciation of diversity. Through enriching experiences such as trips, visitors, performances and outdoor learning, children broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the wider world.

Our mission — to nurture and empower every learner to achieve their academic potential and develop the confidence and skills needed to excel at Christ Church, in higher education and beyond — sits at the heart of our curriculum design

As a result, pupils leave Christ Church CE Primary School as confident, articulate and compassionate individuals, equipped with the knowledge, skills and moral foundation to succeed in the next stage of their education and as responsible, globally aware citizens
